The Deep Bedding Method

The deep bedding method is a type of manure management system that involves placing a deep layer of bedding material, such as wood chips , in an animals' stall. This bedding material absorbs the animals' manure and urine, creating a compost material that is rich in nutrients. This compost can then be used as a natural fertilizer for growing grass on pastures. There are several reasons why the deep bedding method is better for the environment than synthetic fertilizers. For one, synthetic fertilizers can be expensive and have to be transported long distances, which can be costly and environmentally damaging. Additionally, synthetic fertilizers can leach into the soil and contaminate groundwater, which can be harmful to plants, animals, and even humans. In contrast, the deep bedding method is a natural, sustainable way to fertilize pastures. The compost produced using this method is rich in nutrients and can be applied directly to the pasture, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. The compost also helps to improve the soil structure, promoting better drainage and aeration, which can improve the health of the grass and other plants. Overall, the deep bedding method is a more environmentally friendly way to fertilize pastures and promote healthy grass growth.
